We Come In Pieces

The Remix Collective consists of five Canadian artists from three provinces, all of whom have different backgrounds and life experiences.  Some have art school and fine art backgrounds.  Some are self-taught.  Each artist creates work that is not based on established traditions or techniques, styles or trends.

The title of this exhibition, We Come in Pieces, is a play on their preference for working in Collage and Assemblage. These basic methods of art-making generate images that are often disembodied and presented in disjointed or unreal conditions.

Art critics have difficulty defining and encapsulating this type of work, because it unintentionally incorporates elements of Art Brut, Outsider Art, Neuve Invention, and Art Singulaire.  This art dismisses premeditated ideas of what art should be and what it should representRegardless, We Come in Pieces is an exhibition of work that is highly imaginative, intense, and genuine.” - Remix Collective
