A community of communities. Chatham-Kent is comprised of 23 former towns and the 12 largest municipality in Canada by geographic area.
With its connection to the history of emancipation and the Underground Railroad, Chatham-Kent boasts many important African-Canadian Heritage sites, including Buxton National Historic Site and the Josiah Henson House. First Nations communities include Walpole Island First Nation Bkejwanong Territory, and Delaware Nation at Moraviantown. Francophone communities also add to the rich cultural fabric of the area, with Pain Court, Grande Point and Dover Centre contributing to a heritage of early French settlements. The area continues to attract Newcomers and Migrant agricultural workers. With its proximity to the US, TAG also hosts many American visitors.
