Breaking Barriers
September 21 – November 18, 2018
Thames Art Gallery is pleased to partner with Chatham-Kent Prosperity Roundtable, CK Employment and Social Services, and the Chatham-Kent Public Library to present Breaking Barriers. This community arts exhibit is a recurring project that explores art and issues related to overcoming divisions, marginalization and inequality through creative practice. The exhibition is open to artists and community members in efforts to build awareness of barriers and local issues while empowering people to make positive changes in our community.
In this year’s iteration, Chatham artist Elizabeth Downey Sunnen and Chatham-Kent Prosperity Roundtable Project Coordinator Phillip Mock travelled across Chatham-Kent working with different groups on a large community mural displayed here in various parts, while others brought in work to support the project. Overall, this year’s exhibition highlights inclusivity, visibility, and community life and resilience to find strength to ‘break through barriers’. We implore you make your mark in our community by breaking barriers and creating opportunities for inclusion, connectedness, and community.
