Cryptic Landscapes: Myles Lynch

July 17 – September 14, 2024

Opening Reception: Friday, July 19, 2024

Myles Lynch’s series, Cryptic Landscapes, explores textures by using paper pulp and water to recreate landscapes from the artist’s dreams. The series studies the sublimity of being extremely small in infinite space – that sudden self-awareness we feel looking at the stars.

Mike Ondrovcik: PRIDE Window Display

July 17 – September 14, 2024

Opening Reception: Friday, July 19, 2024

This years PRIDE window display by Ondrovcik displays a number of flying “kites” painted to represent some (but not all) of the sexualities and genders identified today. Included in this installation is a display board identifying all the kites and what their colours represent.

Eye, Sea, You: Maxwell Johnson

January 10 – March 9, 2024

Opening Reception: January 26, 2024 during Winter ARTcrawl

Maxwell Johnson brings together a series of paintings that show the development and discovery of his unique artistic style. With a heavy use of black paint contrasted by vibrant colours, Maxwell expresses the internal experience of personal struggles with mental health, financial instability and conforming to societal standards.

The Fabrication of Stars and of Family: Elizabeth Downey

March 13 – May 11, 2024

Opening Reception: March 15, 2024

Downey is always working with how people connect. These works span time and space through the inclusion of quilting squares salvaged from a dusty box in an attic, from the 1930’s. Each square is unique and no pattern has been repeated, yet they are all part of what was intended to be a comforting quilt. Just like a family is stitched together through the inclusion and exclusion of people, the fact that this never did become a quilt reminds the viewer that blood cannot be the only thing that ties us together; there is sweat, there are tears, and there is hope that what is to come will be better than what has been.

Wanderings: Scott Taylor

Mary 15 – July 13, 2024

Opening Reception: May 17, 2024

Scott Taylor’s “Wanderings” looks at familiar regional scenery through an atmospheric lens of black and white photography, reflecting the contrast between stillness and motion as the artist journeys in search of images that capture solitary moments of quiet contemplation.
